Why?

There is no easy image compression tool available. Most of the online solutions require you to upload your images first, then download the results, which is not practical if you have to convert thousands of images.

Image compressor is super fast. But it is local only: you work directly with your local files. No upload and download required.

Because we use the File System Access API, the app is only compatible with Chrome, Edge and Opera.

Benchmark

Compared to imageoptim.com which is my favorite previous solution, it's more than 20x faster for JPG compressions (thanks to mozjpeg), with lower file size.

PNG is about 5 to 10x faster. With about 5% lower file size. But if you enable loseless compression in ImageOptim you'll save a lot more. On the otherside Image Compressor is able to convert from PNG to JPG which is not possible in ImageOptim.

We hope to have time to add stats and more apps to compare with.
